Professional Biography
Amy Bortnick is a Dietetic Intern who earned her BS degree in the field of Food and Nutrition Science from the University of Maryland, College Park (2012) – after transferring from North Carolina State University in her sophomore year, after deciding to pursue her passion for nutrition. She chose the University of Maryland because of its research focused accredited program in Dietetics. In the past year she has worked with Jane Jakubczak, the University of Maryland Health Center Dietitian, counseling individuals on nutrition and the benefits of healthy intake habits. She gained further exposure and experience working with an entrepreneurial private practice working at Rebecca Bitzer and Associates, a Medical Nutrition Therapy practice in Greenbelt, Maryland. The practice is staffed with six dietitians. Her experiences have lead to a strong interest in counseling and behavioral nutrition. Living away from home has allowed Amy to discover that proper nutrition improves the quality of one’s life and has helped her to adapt to and excel in college. She is a running enthusiast and runs daily. She enjoys challenging herself by training for and competing in marathons, creating new recipes, blogging about nutrition, traveling to new places, reading, and most importantly, spending quality time with family and friends.
